The nearest large coastal resorts are La Tranche sur Mer or La Rochelle (1 hour 20), the Loire valley – Angers or Saumur - 1 hour 30 to the North, Cognac is less than 2 hours away. The nearest shops are about 5/10 mins car drive away - the small towns of St Varent and Airvault where there is a small supermarket, chemists, bakers, tabac etc. The village is about 20 minutes away from the very large historical town of Thouars where you can find every shop etc and 20 mins in the opposite direction you have Parthenay which is wonderful for shopping too. Both very picturesque and ancient towns with great local markets. We have very kind and sociable neighbours, who although do not speak English they couldn't be more helpful and friendly. There are 3 (we think) English couples owning houses in the village too. The property is 50 mins away from Poitiers and an hour and 20 mins from Tours.
